I must be honest, hindi ako maalam sa maraming vocabulary. And I never knew before na there is a word frugal. Until nang maglabasan ang maraming blog about frugality.

When I was at my young age, negatibo para sa isang tao ang matawag na kuripot. It was an insult and I never want to be labelled with that word. Pero ang masasabi ko lang, siguro kuripot would be negative kung hindi mo kayang magextend ng tulong sa kapwa in terms of money just in case it calls for it. O hindi ka marunong magpainom man lang ng tubig or juice sa kapitbahay mong napadaan sa bahay mo para kamustahin ka dahil kagagaling mo lang sa sakit. O hindi mo man naabutan ng perang maipangkakain yung kawawang matanda na nakadungaw sa sasakyan mo. Some would say na “sindikato yan” pero I would say na hindi ko problema yun. Ang importante, nakagawa ka ng mabuti sa kapuwa mo, regardless kung niloko ka man o hindi.

Pero kung kuripot ka in a way na wise spender ka at hindi ka compulsive buyer na you buy without thinking much kung kailangan mo nga ang isang gamit talaga. I would say na positibo yun at hindi negatibo para sa isang individual. Siguro let’s just use the word “frugal” instead of “kuripot”.

Sa modern life natin ngayun at sa mga recession na din na nararanasan ng napakaraming mga bansa. Being frugal is a must. You need to save money, and invest on it wisely. Otherwise, you’ll lose more than you earn sa ilang panahong darating, at malapit na yun.
