Flashget is under attack?

Submitted by Ron on February 3, 2010 – 3:22 amComments

I was downloading a video last night using Flashget when suddenly my AVIRA Antivirus popped-up saying that I’ve downloaded malicious files and Trojans.

I immediately denied the access and checked the video I downloaded.  It was clean, probably because of AVIRA, I thought.

But there was something wrong with my Flashget Interface, the ADS which usually appear on the right frame of Flashget got terribly wrong, the images were gone and special characters filled the entire frame.

My idea is to check on their website: www.flashget.com, when I was trying to access the page this was what I got:

MALWARE DETECTED!

So I clicked the link Safe Browsing diagnostic page for www.flashget.com and Google explained my doubt, that Flashget might have been hacked or under attack.

Check out this link:

http://safebrowsing.clients.google.com/safebrowsing/diagnostic?site=http://www.flashget.com/&client=googlechrome&hl=en-US

But the thing is, I’m still using Flashget.  I just don’t update nor click any links on it to avoid the application to communicate to its server.

It appears that what happened last night was when the application was communicating with its site server, there the problem occurs.  It downloads automatically viruses and Trojans from the website which was probably hacked or under attack.
